Tiistaina 5. toukokuuta 2020 13 Vapunaattona jaettiin kotimaista ruokaa kansainvälisestä keittiöstä UUSIKAUPUNKI Ossi Nyström Uudenkaupungin Asukas- luotsaus, Mannerheimin lastensuojeluliiton Uuden- kaupungin osasto sekä Var- sinais-Suomen piiri, A-kilta, ConfusionKitchen sekä am- mattiopisto Novida järjesti- vät vappuaattona maksut- toman keittolounasjaon. Ukipoliksen luona lounasta jaettiin yksinasuville ja pa- riskunnille. – Tämä sai alkunsa pari viikkoa sitten, kun MLL piti oman ruokajakonsa, ja olin hakemassa ruokaa omalle perheelleni. Työskentelen Ukipoliksen Asukasluot- sauksessa, jossa autanmaa- hanmuuttajia. Aloimme pu- hua, että on todella hienoa, että perheille jaetaan lou- nasta, mutta että tässä kau- pungissaonniinpaljonmui- takin ihmisiä, joilla on tällä hetkellä vaikeaa esimerkiksi lomautusten vuoksi, Gran- ger T Simmons taustoitti. –Koska koulut ovat kiinni, lapset eivät saa ateriaa sieltä. Moni perhe ei ole saanut vielä palveluseteleitään, kei- tot valmistaneen Confusion Kitchenin pääkokkina toi- minut Eeva Adigwe jatkoi. TÄLLÄ kertaa ruokaa jaet- tiin kolmessa kohteessa. MLL:n piste jakoi lounasta lapsiperheille, Ukipolis yksi- nasuville ja pariskunnille, ja A-Kilta omille asiakkailleen. – Fakta on se, että me kaikki tarvitsemme ruokaa! Ajattelimme, että tällä ker- taa pidämme yhteistyöllä ruokajaon, joka on avoin ai- van kaikille, Simmons totesi. TARJOLLA oli kansainvä- lisen Confusion Kitchenin valmistamaa jauheliha- ja kasviskeittoa. – Valmistimme keitot ei- lenNovidan keittiössä. Lah- joituksia oli paljon. Saimme 750 kiloa perunaa laitilalai- selta TuorekartanoOy:ltä, ja 30 kiloa porkkanaaVuorelan Tilalta, Adigwe avasi. – Perunoita kuorittiin ei- len vapaaehtoisvoimin viiti- sen tuntia. Lihakeitto tehtiin naudanlihasta, koska niin moni ei voi syödä sianlihaa, Simmons lisäsi. HIEMAN ennen kello yhtä lounasta oli Simmonsin ja Adigwen arvioidenmukaan käynyt hakemassa 40–50 ih- mistä. Koska keittoa oli vielä jäljellä, päätettiin jakoa jat- kaa vielä kello kahteen. – Jauhelihakeittoa tehtiin 200 litraa ja kasviskeittoa suunnilleen 160 litraa. Tuli vähän vähemmän, mitä il- moitettiin, mutta se ei hait- taa, koska kuitenkin saatiin tehtyä niin paljon annoksia, ja vielä on keittoa jäljellä, Adigwe kertoi. Vastaavaa ruuanjakotilai- suutta ei ole ainakaan vielä suunniteltu. – Se olisi hienoa, mutta edellyttäisi sitä, että sai- simme paljon sponsoreita, Simmons totesi. SATOJEN litrojen keitto- määrän valmistaminen ja jakaminen edellytti suurta työpanosta niin Simmon- silta, Adigwelta kuin kaikilta vapaaehtoisiltakin. –Nämä kaikki vapaaehtoi- set täällä ovat ulkomaalaisia Confusion Kitchenistä. He ovat olleet mahtavia ja teh- neet suuren työn. Teimme kaiken ruuan Novidalla, ja Novidan opettajista erityi- sesti Paul-Erik Hakkarai- nen oli suureksi avuksi, Sim- mons kiitteli. Vaikka hyvän tekeminen olisi joskus raskastakin, pal- kitsee se lopulta aina teki- jänsä. – Kun näkee, että pystyy auttamaan toisia, on se ai- noa asia, millä on merki- tystä, Adigwe päätti. Lisäksi mukana on ajankohtaiskatsaus koronaviruksesta ja ta- rinaa ruokajakelusta. Last week in Uusikaupunki Granger T Simmons Last week I had the pleasure of being a part of or- ganizing a Free Soup Lunch giveaway with many wonderful people here in Uusikaupunki. We gave out over four hundred liters of soup, seven hundred and fifty kilos of potatoes, lots of carrots, bread, eggs, dairy products, honey, her- ring, cold-brewed coffee, popcorn, and more. Lots of elderly people, single people, couples, families, foreigners, new-comers, and long time residents, lined up at our distribution sites and were able to take a nice package of goods to eat and help them during this difficult time. We had much support and sponsorship from many different companies and organizations. I want to give a special thank you to all of our spon- sors, partners and volunteers in this endeavour. It took five hours for our volunteers to hand- peel over 165 kilos of potatoes. I asked the vol- unteers to tell a little about their experience with this Soup Giveaway. Read their responses below. Eeva Adigwe (Lead Coordinator), Finland – It was great to first of all see howdifferent peo- ple and organizations were able to come together to make this event happen. When I saw people starting to line up for the food, I felt so grateful to be part of a thing like this. Maciej Mydonski, Poland – I thought about the fact that I would be doing something for people that are in need. It is a nor- mal human reaction to help someone when you know that help should be given. I do not think that there is a special reason to do this, whenever you notice that you could be of assistance, you should jump right in to the rescue, no matter what it is. Athanasios Papanikos, Greece – It is good to help each other when times are good, but it’s more important to help each other during the difficult times. Especially right now in this weird situationwith the Corona virus and the quarantine that is keeping us separate from each other. What really makes me happy is that there are people who can organise these kind of events and we can come in and volunteer. Prince Safo, Ghana – It was my pleasure to be of assistance. I am sorry that I was not able to join on the day of the distribution but I was impressed we had lot of food to distribute and good protective gear for ourselves and safety guidelines for the peoplewho will be participating in the event. Marion Dumitru, Romania – I think that all communities around the world should have this kind of initiative. It is such a beautiful thing to help others, and in my opin- ion, this is what matters. It wasn’t hard at all. Well maybe just the part where we were peeling pota- toes for 5 hours was a bit of a challenge. Magdalen Ogbomo, Nigeria – I was just so very grateful for the opportunity to serve people. Thank you for giving us this op- portunity. Timothy D’hondt, Belgium –Peeling potatoes all day andmaking 400 liters of soupmight not sound appealing for many, but with the community in mind and great people around to do this with, it was a fun and great ex- perience. One that I would definitely do all over again. this new complex within the next three years, but Kivistö is confident in the power of teamwork and cooperation and believes that the results of this project will create a safe, interactive, communi- ty-enhancing space for all residents. – Our set of values are creativity, interaction, and community. This is some- thing that I believe we can achieve withmodern spaces and equipment which joins different users. We alto- gether form a large group of users with different back- grounds, ideas, and inter- ests. For newcomers espe- cially, this kind of meeting point offers opportunities for participating in various and hobbies and in a way helps them to integrate into our society, find their place, become part of this com- munity, meet, and make friends, Kivistö says. THE DEMOLITION process will begin very soon. The current swimming hall will remain until the new one is ready. Some of the older school buildings will be demolished during the first phase result- ing in the use of interim, tem- porary learning spaces for a portion of the students. This process is still under design and will be made clear as things continue forward. SiHy should be completed by the end of 2023.
